| Access |
Tropic Star Lodge is a veritable paradise cut out of the side of a mountain at the edge of the Darien Jungle on the Pacific coast of Panama. The Lodge is situated 150 miles south of Panama City, or 35 miles from the Colombian border. It can only be reached by boat or plane, since there are no roads within a hundred miles. A charter plane lands on Tropic Star’s private airstrip in Piñas Bay. You then take a 15-minute boat ride to Tropic Star Lodge. |
| Accommodations |
Tropic Star’s spacious cabins and rooms are air-conditioned, with a beautiful view of Piñas Bay. Each room has twin beds and private bath/dressing room areas. A king-size bed can be requested. The cabins have surrounding porches with chairs. |
| Dining |
Multi-course dinners, complete with wine, are served in the scenic bay-view dining room each evening. The chef prepares various specialties, such as Baked Alaska, Cherries Jubilee, black bean soup; fresh baked pies and bread, ceviche, and many more varied and delectable dishes. A fresh "catch of the day" is offered, as well as the regular main course selection. |

| Fishing Information |
All species of billfish and non-billfish can be caught year-round in the pristine waters off Piñas Bay. The prime black marlin season runs from December through April. Then the Pacific sailfish move in during April through July. The striped marlin season is considered mid-March through May. July brings another run of marlin; many in the 500 lb. range. Most fishing is done six to twelve miles offshore in very calm waters. Four to five foot seas are considered "very rough" water at Tropic Star Lodge.
There have been more I.G.F.A. world records broken in Piñas Bay than anywhere else in the world -- over 170 World Records! Tropic Star Lodge holds over forty world records at the present time! The majority of these records are for black, blue, or striped marlin and Pacific sailfish. Most of the records at the Lodge were taken on light and ultra light line - which is what Piñas Bay is recognized for throughout the World. Also, recently Tropic Star has recorded over 23 Junior Angler World Records!
Many people fish at Tropic Star Lodge to catch their record fish, also, they come to catch their first Black Marlin or other billfish. Tropic Star’s crews can help you as much or as little as you require. Beautiful certificates are issued for those who catch their first billfish at the lodge.
About Piñas Bay How's the Weather? Piñas Bay has mainly two seasons: dry and wet. The dry season runs from January through April - the temperature is generally 80 to 85 degrees F, cooler in the evenings, and it almost never rains the whole day. May through December the temperature is a little cooler and afternoon thunderstorms can be expected from higher humidity. |
