Overview
The farther you get from civilization, the better the fly fishing. Here in this remote corner of Montana, it’s beyond good. Spotted Bear Ranch is located deep in the woods of remote Northwest Montana, in between Glacier National Park and the Bob Marshall Wilderness. This adventurous outpost sits on a bluff overlooking the South Fork of the Flathead River, considered by many to be one of the most secluded and pristine rivers in the world. Known as one of the last strongholds for native Westslope Cutthroat trout, the South Fork pours clean and cold straight out of the immense Bob Marshall Wilderness area. It’s the kind of water sportsmen dream of.
Spotted Bear Ranch’s specialty is dry fly fishing for Montana’s native trout – the Westslope Cutthroat. These wild trout are plentiful, hungry and hard fighting. Other fish species native to this watershed includes the feisty, endangered Bull Trout (which commonly exceed 30 inches). Guests can enjoy lodge-based fly fishing trips or wilderness pack and float expeditions. Fly fishing trips are led by Orvis-trained guides who know the territory like the back of their calloused hands. They can put you on stretches of water that relatively few humans have ever cast eyes and flies upon. The season begins mid-June and continues through September.
Beyond its sensational fishing, Spotted Bear offers an unlimited world of outdoor adventure. Whatever your interests, the hosts will design a special experience that will leave lasting memories. Lodge guests enjoy the ranch’s historic lodge and rustic private cabins, remarkably comfortable beds, fresh cuisine and the friendly, engaging hospitality for which Montana is renowned. Whether you choose to ride horses into the back country camps or return to the comfort of the lodge each evening, you’re sure to find clean, comfortable accommodations, friendly professional guides, excellent meals, personalized service, as much solitude as you want and fishing memories you’ll keep for a lifetime.
This is Spotted Bear Ranch, and there’s no place on earth like it.
