How It Began
Shearwater Fishing Resort & Marina began its development as a growing resort community, company and wilderness destination along the central coast of British Columbia at the conclusion of WWII in 1947.
At the conclusion of the war, one of the enlisted officers, Andy Widsten, purchased the land and buildings from the Canadian Government at which time Widsten Marine Services was then born.
In 1967 Andy’s son, Craig Widsten, purchased the business from his father with the vision of turning Shearwater into a marine destination for all to enjoy. His vision has been carried on by many of his managers and today it boasts a new waterfront lodge that caters to mainly the guests on an inclusive packaged fishing trip, 2000’ of dock space that allows anglers with their own boats to come up and enjoy the natural beauty and resource that the central coast has to offer.
Today, Shearwater Fishing Lodge & Marina is a full service destination way-point and tourist center located in the heart of the famous “Great Bear Rainforest” on the Central Coast, 300 miles North of Vancouver.
