Fishing Trips
Owner, Bob Howe, has been a Registered Master Maine Guide for 34 years, and he has been teaching people to fish for even longer than that! Fishing in this area is tremendous! The region offers many species such as brown trout, native rainbow trout, brook trout, perch, small and largemouth bass, splake, and Northern Pike. There are large lakes, small, remote ponds, and one of the best rivers for fly fishing in the northeast. Guided trips are available, or you can simply stay at the lodge and they’ll be happy to offer you advice on where to fish… and what’s hot to catch them with at the time.
Bob also offers fly fishing lessons for beginners or slightly advanced fishermen. Knots, fly identification, reading the water and current, casting techniques, and many other important skills are taught and practiced. After a delicious home-cooked meal, you’ll head to the river to put your new skills to the test.
Wildlife Tours
Sit back and relax while taking in some beautiful scenery of the western mountains of Maine! These forests are still almost untouched by humans and contain much wildlife such as moose, whitetail deer, fox, coyote, snowshoe hare, bobcat, and many upland game birds like Ruffed Grouse and Woodcock. You can choose to explore the region by modern vehicle, 4x4 jeep, or comfortable pontoon boat on the gorgeous Wyman Lake.
Wyman Lake was formed in the early 1930’s when a dam was placed in the Kennebec River in Bingham. Much of the shorefront is owned by the local power company which also owns the dam, leaving most of the shoreline free of camps and houses. Oftentimes a variety of wildlife can be seen at the water’s edge, as well as Maine’s famous loons!
Pine Grove Lodge and Cabins’ guides will explain all you care to learn about Maine’s wildlife, the surrounding environment, and history of the area; adding many other interesting tidbits you can’t get anywhere else! The memories will surely last a lifetime.
