Nor'Wester Outfitters is located at Nor'Wester Lodge on Poplar Lake, 30 miles up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais, Minnnesota. Take the scenic North Shore Drive of Lake Superior from Duluth to Grand Marais, then head up the Gunflint Trail into the heart of the Superior National Forest.

Accommodations

Wooded lakeside sites complete with electric and water hook-ups. Hot showers, flush toilets, and a central dump station. Free firewood, sand beach, and playground. Pets must me under control at all times and never left unattended.

Lakeshore Cabins and Villas
Nor'Wester's secluded lakeshore cabins are well spaced for privacy and completely equipped for light housekeeping. Each unit contains stove, refrigerator, toaster, microwave, coffeemaker, utensils, pots and pans, dishes and all bath and kitchen linens. Each unit has its own deck, lawn furniture, charcoal grill and aluminum canoe. Cabins include private docks and firewood for the fireplace. Exception is Birchview, which has no fireplace.

Towering Pines
Exclusive two bedroom with king bed, two double beds, bath with tub/shower, and fireplace. Located alone on a pine-studded point, this cabin is very special.

Spruce Haven
Cozy two-bedroom with double bed, two twin beds, bath with shower, carpeted, fireplace.

Aspenwood
Charming two bedroom with hardwood floors, a queen bed, two twin beds, bath with tub/shower, and fireplace.

Birchview
A one bedroom "honeymoon" cabin with queen bed, hardwood floors, tub/shower bath, and a spectacular view of the sunset to kindle (or rekindle) the romance in your life.

Ash Cottage
A light, airy two bedroom with double bed, two twin beds, bath with tub/shower, carpeted, fireplace, and large picture window overlooking the lake.

Balsam Grove
Unique three bedroom on a hillside looking out over the lake, two double beds, two twin beds, bath with shower, carpeted, and fireplace.

Cedar Haus Villas
Separate two-level units in a townhouse building. Each has a full kitchen with stove, refrigerator, toaster, microwave, coffeemaker, utensils, and linens. A sitting area, with a fireplace, has sliding glass doors to a large lakeside deck equipped with table, chairs, and a charcoal grill. The first level also includes a king bed and a tub/shower bath. Upstairs there is another tub/shower bath, two queen beds and two double beds in three rooms. The exception is #4, which has one queen bed and four twin beds in three rooms upstairs.

Camping
On the shore of Poplar Lake, and right next to the dock and sandy beach are wooded campsites complete with electric and water hookups. Pitch your tent or park your RV at any one of the beautiful campsites. The kids can have fun on the beach, swim, take out a paddleboat, or play at the playground or in the old-time fort. Rent a canoe or a boat and motor, or bring your own-- the fishing is great! On the premises are hot showers, flush toilets, and a central dump station. Nor'Wester offers free firewood to camping guests. For your convenience, you can buy groceries, bait, fishing and camping gear, and unique Northwoods gifts in the gift shop, located right across the road from the lodge. Come sleep under the stars and northern lights at Nor'Wester Lodge on the Gunflint Trail.

Fishing Information

With the Gunflint Trail at your front door and Poplar Lake as your backyard, Nor'Wester Lodge offers comfortable lodging on the lakeshore - start your fishing right here on Poplar, or launch your boat into other scenic, clear, remote - and productive - surrounding lakes. Fishing is so popular here that most of the cabins have a private dock. Bring your boat, or use one of Nor'Wester's. They have fishing boats with motors, paddleboats, a pontoon boat, and a variety of canoes.

It starts with the fishing - walleye, lake trout, smallmouth bass, northern - and gets better by the minute. You're in the middle of a clear, deep northwoods lake, surrounded by vast forests, and besides the fish, there's wildlife everywhere. Eagles and osprey overhead, beavers, loons, moose in the shallows - it's amazing what you can see here while you're waiting for a fish to take the bait.

Whether it's the lull of the boat as you're working a weed patch for smallmouth, or the hum of the motor as you troll, or the dipping of canoe paddles as you head out to fish for a walleye shore lunch, it's pure relaxation, with an occasional shot of adrenaline thrown in when the line goes taut and you have one on. Some days you catch fish, and some days you don't, but it's always a good day spent fishing.

Additional Info

A Note about Pets...
Nor'Wester staff prefer that you leave them at home. If this is not possible, there is a $15/day or $75/week for each pet. Pets are NOT allowed in the Cedar Haus, only in cabins. They must not be left alone or allowed on furniture or beds. They must be under control at all times. Noisy pets will be asked to leave.

Discounts
Military Discounts: 25% discount for anyone in the Minnesota National Guard who has served in Iraq or Afghanistan or a spouse taking the kids on a vacation while the guard member is deployed. Just Nor'Wester's way of saying "thanks."
Honeymooners' Discount: 10% on a four-or-more nights stay in a cabin or our Cedar Haus plus a complimentary bottle of champagne and free use of a canoe. When you make your reservation, just mention you saw this online special.
Golden Age Discount: 5% on a four-or-more nights stay in a cabin or Cedar Haus and a free boat or canoe. Be sure to mention you saw this special online when you make your reservation.

Children three years and under stay free.

Rates do not include state or local taxes or gratuities.

Taxes: State 7.5%, Lodging 3%.

Reservation Policy

Deposits:

Deposit will be credited to the last night of the reservation.
$375 deposit with each week's reservation.
$175 deposit for two-night stay.
$50 deposit for RV weekly reservations.

Cancellation Policy

60-day notice required with a $50 service fee. Within 60 days, refund only if they are able to fill the entire cancellation, and also subject to $50 service fee. Due to its small size and remoteness, cancellations significantly affect Nor'Wester Lodge and Outfitters. To avoid any misunderstanding, you will be charged for the days you reserve. Please check your dates carefully.
