Overview
Moose Lake Lodge, 300 miles north of Vancouver, British Columbia, is a fly in only, full service lodge offering access to some of the most famous, world-class, angling rivers in British Columbia, as well as fishing for wild fighting rainbow trout in surrounding lakes and streams. Located near the headwaters of the Blackwater River, Dean River, and Entiako River, the lake in front of the lodge is the perfect place to fly fish for rainbow trout. From here you can fly out by plane or helicopter to float down the rivers after steelhead, Chinook, Coho, Pink, Chum, Sockeye and King Salmon as well as rainbows and cutthroat trout. Float and wade the Blackwater River for dry fly fishing that is great for all ages and skill levels. Fly out to wade and float rivers in Tweedsmuir Park, Kitlope Park, Fiordland Park, and in the Spirit Bear Rain Forest. You may experience trips to a different river each day of your adventure here.
Dean River Lodge is the second of two full service Orvis Endorsed fly fishing lodges and is nestled in a beautiful wilderness setting overlooking the bay of the Dean Channel, with the Gratham Waterfall rushing to drop 1,000 feet in the backyard. Steep mountains of the British Columbia Coast Range capped with glaciers, rise up to heights of 8,000 feet in full view.
The Dean River, in British Columbia, is world famous for its summer run steelhead and salmon that come into the system from June to October. The Dean River steelhead are some of the strongest of all steelhead stock. This fact coupled with our location being very close to saltwater, guarantees you will experience "tackle-busters". These fish are chrome bright, with all their strength and stamina. Guides use a jet boat to place you on the runs. Two guides are supplied for six anglers.
The Blackwater River is home to some of the best dry fly fishing for wild native rainbows anywhere. These aggressive Blackwater trout take drys on the surface consistently. Most often, anglers fly to the water after breakfast with or without a guide, wade and fish until afternoon then return to the lodge in time for dinner. When water levels permit, guests sometimes float for two days. Catches of 50 trout are common, with a majority in the 1.5-pound range; some go up to four pounds.
Guiding Experience Moose Lake Lodge has been guiding in the area since 1969; they know where to go and when to go for various species. They provide experienced guides and both guided and unguided fly fishing. Guides know the best times to fish each water for the different species - so they put anglers in the best spots. On fly outs, Moose Lake Lodge strives to guide guests into rivers that provide a wilderness adventure and large numbers of fish.
Wildlife Viewing Wildlife viewing and photography opportunities are common in this pristine British Columbia wilderness where there's a wide range of species and surroundings. From Moose Lake you will have the opportunity to enjoy eagles and osprey fishing, hear the loons "laughing", see families of ducks and geese swimming, hear coyotes and wolves howling and see moose feeding on the lakeshore. From the Dean River Lodge there will be plenty of occasions to see eagles, mountain goats, black bears, grizzly bears, seals and deer. They have also had exciting times filming black bears, grizzlies fishing and the rare and elusive white "spirit bear" of the rainforest.
