*Believed to be the only one at an Alaska lodge – if you haven’t played before, it’s highly addictive! It’s a great way to wind down the evenings challenging your friends and family to a shoot-off. Facilities / Equipment
Unparalleled Freshwater and Saltwater Fishing
Kodiak Legends Lodge offers fully-guided freshwater or saltwater fishing trips – fishing enthusiasts are encouraged to float and fish the world famous Karluk River. The diversity and productivity of the Karluk, which has monster runs of all five salmon species as well as the largest population of steelhead on the Island, make it one of the best fishing rivers in the world.
Directly in front of Kodiak Legends Lodge lies Uyak Bay, known for its abundant marine life including whales, seals, otters, waterfowl, and most importantly, big fish! Depending on the time of year, one can catch many different types of fish - ranging from monster halibut to all five species of salmon, ling-cod, yellow-eye, and even sharks. It’s not uncommon to catch five plus different species of game fish a day…and it’s just 15 minutes from the lodge.
A Fly-Fisherman’s Dream “Few rivers offer the diversity and sheer numbers of fish throughout the season like the Karluk. Upon awakening from its winter slumber, the river first welcomes hordes of chrome chinook warriors, followed by prolific runs of sockeye. However, the real gem of the Karluk is the elusive steelhead. For the purist, fall steelhead fishing on the Karluk can be spectacular.” –Tony Weaver, Fish Alaska Magazine
Spectacular Hunting
Kodiak Island is home to the largest Sitka Blacktail in the world, with the majority of Alaska's trophies taken from the spectacular Emerald Isle, as well as a large herd of caribou that can be accessed via fly-out trips.
If you prefer wing-shooting, Kodiak Island is home to one of the best sea duck hunting spots in the world, with an abundance of the prized Harlequin, Pacific Eider, and Barrows Goldeneye.
Incredible Flight-Seeing and Wildlife Viewing
Land the float plane and walk around on a glacier, observe Kodiak brown bears (the largest bears in the world) in Kodiak or across the Shelikof Strait in Katmai, bald eagles, whales, sea otters, puffins, and other diverse wildlife in their natural habitat!
One of the best ways to tour Kodiak and see and observe the abundance of wildlife on the island is by air – this is called it “flight-seeing”. Climb on board the lodge’s six-passenger DeHavilland Beaver float plane and soar over some of the most beautiful, pristine wilderness areas found in America today.
Beach-Combing, Crabbing & Other Activities
The lodge is located near an ancient Alutiiq settlement dating back thousands of years. In the evening, you can go for a pleasant stroll along the beach and search for artifacts (such as oil lamps, arrowheads and combs) while soaking in the beautiful scenery. What would an Alaskan vacation be without fresh crab straight from the icy waters of Larsen Bay? Kodiak Legends Lodge has a number of crab pots in Larsen Bay that are teeming with tanner (snow) crab almost year round! You can experience The Deadliest Catch for yourself by picking your own crab pots and enjoying the same fresh crab for dinner within minutes! | ||
