| Species of Fish Caught |
The August Brown Trout population is created by the diverse insect population of the Cimarron River. From April through September anglers can count on at least five different stonefly hatches, 11 different caddisfly hatches and countless different mayfy hatches along with midges and a host of terrestrials. A thick golden stonefly hatch begins in early June and moves up the river through June into early July. During these periods of insect activity, higher daily fish catches are possible. The abundant insect hatches combined with the shallow water makes the Cimarron at Cimarroncita a premier dry fly fishery.
The catch and release water is managed for optimal fishery habitat. Cimarroncita require barbless flies, rests the river between guests, and accompanies all anglers with a ranch staff river assistant. Professional fly fishing guides who have been fishing New Mexico water for decades are available for referral and scheduling. |
