Overview

The 4UR Ranch is nestled in a spectacular high mountain valley surrounded by national forest, designated wilderness and the towering palisades of the upper Rio Grande River. Here, in this pristine and hidden corner of the Rocky Mountains, you're invited to discover new adventures – incredible fly fishing and horseback riding and more.

The 4UR is steeped in history and legacy. For over a century, this valley has been host to adventurous travelers who came for the recuperative magic of the ranch's hot soda springs and for the unparalleled trout fishing of the fabled Rio Grande River and amazing Goose Creek. For more a generation, the property has been in the hands of the Leavell family, who have operated it continuously as a luxury guest ranch of the highest standards. Here, you can find the luxurious west, the west that combines the finer pleasures in life with the inherent joys of a day in the saddle or casting a fly-rod to willing trout.

Fly Fishing
With everything from big river water and small stream canyon pocketwater, to cut-banked meadows and trout-cruising stillwaters, the 4UR ranch is fly fishing at its finest. Furthermore, it's exceptionally unique, for two reasons. First, in Goose Creek the ranch boasts one of the very few private tailwaters in the west, if not in the world. The result is an incredible healthy population of large, hard-fighting fish in an intimate stream setting. Second, the ranch waters are divided in such a way that every angler has a shot at great water, fished privately, every day. Each night, a lottery is held, and anglers choose their own section of water to fish by themselves. It's the ultimate fly fishing experience for the seasoned angler or the new flyrodder alike.

Horseback Riding
The best way to experience the west has always been astride a beautiful horse. It's the best way to see the 4UR Ranch, and miles surrounding national forest, as well. The 4UR follows the philosophy of natural horsemanship, a style of horse-and-rider relationship that provides immensely rewarding time in the saddle. Under their natural horsemanship approach, riding isn't restricted to typical dude ranch nose-to-tail trail rides. Here, you and your children can find the joy of riding in a truly spectacular western setting under the gently guiding hands of sage yet friendly wranglers.

Children's Activities
Oh, to be a child at the 4UR! The children's activities will return your little ones to you at the end of the day filled with stories of adventure and new knowledge. From horseback riding and art projects to nature hikes and hay wagon rides, the fun seems to never end. The ultimate experience? The weekly rodeo, where children can test their newly acquired horsemanship skills in front of family and friends through an obstacle course in the riding arena. Everyone is a winner.
